Richard Burton Hall of Round Pond passed away in Mohave Valley, AZ on March 25, 2011. He had been ill for several years and went to live with his daughter, Katherine Kaeka and her husband Nano, in May of 2010. Richard was born in Eastport, ME on May 30th 1925 to John (Babe) and Katherine Hall. He married Flora E. Thortstensen in Eastport, Maine in August 1959 and he adopted young Blake, her son, the following year. Flora predeceased him in 2008. Richard retired from the U. S. Navy in 1973 and came to live in Round Pond to be near Flora’s daughter, Gail and family, where he resided until May 2010. He spent 20 years in the service of our country in the U S Navy. While in the Navy, he served on 6 different ships. He was an oil king on the USS Robert H. McCard. When Richard was a younger man living in Eastport, he worked for a Mr. Cohen in a factory that made petticoats which would serve him well in later years. He also lived and worked in North Kingston, RI for a time, working for Singer Sewing Machine Company, where he gleaned more training. In 1973 when he retired from the U S Navy, he started working at the State Liquor store in Damariscotta and began to build a reputation that he could fix just about any make of sewing machine. Richard was loved by his family and is sadly missed. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Gail F. Moore of Round Pond; his son, Blake S. Hall of Bristol; granddaughter, Carolyn Mattern and family of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; and his daughter, Katherine Kaeka and family of Mohave Valley, AZ.
