Rev. Walter “Bud” E. Sanders of Steelville, Missouri went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the age of 90 years.
He was born November 16, 1925 in Steelville, Missouri to William “Sam” Milas Sanders and Iva Mae Goins Sanders. On June 17, 1945 in Steelville, Missouri, Bud was united in marriage to Agnes Whalen at the home of Rev. Sam Roper.
Bud had several different employers from Earl’s Chevrolet, driving a wrecker, working in Colorado in a garage, driving a school bus, working at Chapman Knives and Saws, McDonnell Douglas, Brown Shoe Company and Carden Machine Shop starting in 1964 and retiring in 1990. His love, however, was being a pastor and ministering to many. He became an ordained minister in 1958 and pastored the Delhi Baptist Church until 1974. In 1974, he was called to pastor at the First Southern Baptist Church of Leasburg until 1979. That same year, he became pastor of the Broadway Baptist Church in Vichy until his retirement in 1990. He and Agnes moved to Arizona as snowbirds for five years and then moved permanently there until moving back to Steelville in 2005. They joined the First Baptist Church in Steelville but also ministered for two years. In 2007, Bud was called to interim pastor at the Courtois Baptist Church where he stayed until 2014, but returned again to pastor in 2015. Bud’s life was a full ministry.
He was a musician and enjoyed playing his guitar throughout the years. Bud also enjoyed bowling for many years from Sullivan, Rolla, Cuba to Steelville. Besides loving the Lord, he loved all of his family and enjoyed the time he spent with them.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of seventy years, Agnes Sanders of Steelville, MO; two sons, Jerry Lee Sanders and wife Penny of Florida and Terry Linn Sanders and wife Tina of Wesco, MO; two daughters, Mae Ruble and husband Gene of Steelville, MO and Pat Schwent of Cuba, MO; ten grandchildren, Roy Lee Ruble and wife Theresa, Anthony Gene “Tony” Ruble, Cheri Denise Livesay and husband Mike, Matt Sanders and wife Cindy, Lori Kathryn Blacklock and husband John, Jeri Lee Faber and husband Matthew, Elizabeth Jarvis and husband David, Brandy Michelle Halbert, Brandon Schwent and Jarrid Craig Sanders and wife Crystal; twenty-nine great-grandchildren, Angela Marie Thomeczek, Nathen Lee Ruble, Randi Lanee Livesay, Dustin Michael Livesay, Kasey Daniel McMillen, Mykenzie Ciara Livesay, Tyler Matthew Sanders, Taryn Lin Sanders, Colby Douglas Sanders, Caily Nicole Sanders, Mason Alan Sanders, John Michael Blacklock II, Justen Lee Blacklock and wife Deborah, Greggory Michael Alan Blacklock, David Jonathan Forest Blacklock, Kurtis Kuno Blacklock, Trent Walker Starr, Madison Hope Starr, Arianna Paige Faber, Samuel Michael Swiegard, Kathryn Dee Swiegard, Jaxson David Jarvis, Olivia Merrill, Garet Walter Halbert and wife Heidi, Adam Michael Halbert, Aleeyah Ashton Sanders, Lillie Ann Sanders and Hunter Sanders; three great-great-grandchildren; Makenna Jean Sappington, Selah Grace Halbert, Roman Greggory Blacklock and one on the way; two step-grandchildren, Jason Merrill and wife Renee and Chad Merrill; one step-great-grandson, Chase Merrill; sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Whalen, Vera Irene Whalen, Charlotte Whalen, Patricia Ann Whalen, Raymond Lee Whalen, Sondra Sue Ross and husband William, Ellen Louise Craig and husband Wendell and Roger Merle Whalen; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son; one grandson, Ivan Dale Schwent; two great-grandchildren, Melinda Sue Thomeczek Sappington and Connor Charles Brown;one great-great-granddaughter, McKinlee Grace Livesay; two sisters, Norena Smith and husband Willard and Velita Presley and husband Russell; brothers and sisters-in-law; Earline Lenora Young and husband Roy, Ernest George Whalen, Loretta Faye Whalen, Melba Natalie Offield and husband Dudley, Danny Richard Whalen, Garrett Leonard Whalen, Joan Whalen, Earl Patrick Whalen, Jr. and wife Pat.
