Regina Lee (Russell) Jewett, age 57, of Whitefield died June 25, 2014 at 3:30 from Mesothelioma. She is now rejoicing in heaven with her beloved savior, Jesus Christ. Regina (Gina) was born on March 7, 1957 at Gardiner General Hospital in Gardiner, Maine to Robert Richard Russell, Sr. and Reta Lauraine (Bailey) Russell. Gina grew up in Whitefield, attended Whitefield Elementary School and Wiscasset High School, class of 1975. She was the oldest of six siblings and was known as a “Mother Hen”. At the age of 16 months, she tried to cook oatmeal for her dad’s breakfast while her mother was in the hospital with her newborn brother, Robert, Jr. She did everything she needed to do while her dad slept. Luckily, she didn’t know how to turn on the stove! Gina went on being a mother hen her whole life. She married her high school sweetheart, Michael (Mike) Dana Jewett from Alna on April 19, 1975. Yes, before she graduated high school, while her classmates were in Washington D.C., SHE was getting married! On May 16, 1977, she gave birth to her son, Benjamin Michael. And November 7, 1979, she had a baby girl she named Katie Sue. During these years, Gina and Mike were busy building their home on Rt. 218 in Whitefield. Gina went on to run a home daycare for several years, followed by several more years as the 2nd cook/baker at Whitefield Elementary school. She was active in Girl Scouts, being a registered Girl Scout for 20 years. During that time, she enjoy “her girls”, taking them on many outings. One of her favorite outings was an overnight sleepover at Norlands Living History Center in Livermore, ME. Along with her Assistant Leader (Wonda Stickney), they got to dress & portray a real historical person. Over the years in Girl Scouts, Gina wore many hats; Daycamp staff, Treasurer, Registrar, ARC Angel (Adult Recognition Committee) and member of Kennebec Council Property Committee. She attended 2 national Girl Scout Tri-Annual business meetings, one in Texas (which she was a voting delegate) and the other in Minnesota. Gina also attended seven “Wider-Ops” (summer national Girl Scout programs) as a group leader for girls from all over the USA. In 1998, Gina and her daughter, Katie, spent 10 days in London England, staying at one of the four International Girl Scout Centers, Pax Lodge. Besides her own children, daycare kids and Girl Scout troop members, she also loved and enjoyed the children at her church. While a member of Whitefield Union Church (now Sheepscot Valley Community Church), she served as Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. Now at her current church, Lincoln County Assembly of God in Damariscotta ME, she ministered to children’s nursery, missionettes & substitute Sunday school teacher. Between 2001-2005, Mike & Gina adopted four children from foster care. Nicole Ellisabeth, Jason Travis, Lee Russell Brandon & Shawn Michael. Mike & Gina would tell you, “these are our kids.”… PERIOD. Mike & Gina have six grandchildren; Brandon Austin, Kylee Elizabeth, Colin Stanley, Bristol Allison (Ben’s kids) and Annika Sue and Sabrina Destiny (Katie’s kids). All were a great source of joy for Gina. Gina is survived by siblings, Robert Russell, Jr. (wife Tara) of Dresden, Rhonda Russell Clark (husband Roger) of Windsor, Raelene Russell Fitzpatrick (husband John) of Old Orchard Beach, Randy Russell (wife Becky) of Westport Island and baby sister Ramona Russell Vaillancourt (husband Mark) of Palm Beach, FL. Lots of nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. Gina is also survived by her husband Michael of 39 years, mother Reta LeMar of Dresden, mother-in-law Merle Regina Seigars Jewett and Charles Jewett of Alna, daughter-in-law Cari Allison Dalton Jewett and son-in-law Khalid Ouagarra. In eternity, she will be greeted by her dad, Robert Sr., her step-father, Robert LeMar, foster son, Peter Dickenson and all of her grandparents.
