Arrowsic- Raymond R. Belleville, 65, of Collins Pattee Road died Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born in Lewiston on June 9, 1945, son of Napoleon and Emilienne (Rivard) Belleville.
He attended Lewiston schools and graduated from St. Dominic’s High School in 1963. He received his engineering degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1968.
Ray was an accomplished senior waterfront structural engineer and project manager registered in the State of Maine as a Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. Ray spent most of his career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the Public Works Department where he facilitated development of procedures and guidelines for underwater inspection of waterfront structures and was integral in drydock, shipway, and crane rail inspection and certification. After a long and memorable career at the Shipyard, he went on to work as a consultant for Appledore Engineering Inc. and Enterprise Engineering Inc. Ray was known for his practical approach to engineering problems and was an excellent mentor to many. He shared his knowledge as a contributing author to the widely-used book “Design of Marine Facilities for the Berthing, Mooring, and Repair of Vessels” by John W. Gaythwaite. He was also a member of the Society of American Military Engineers. Ray was the consummate professional, took great pride in his work and truly relished the friends he made during his career.
After his retirement, he became a member of the Arrowsic Planning Board. His hobbies were sailing and gourmet cooking.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen A. (Cloutier) Belleville of Arrowsic, one son, David R. Belleville and his wife Christelle of Yarmouth, one daughter, Tynan A. Becker (Christine Belleville) and her husband Steven of Fairbanks, Alaska, two grandchildren, Corbin F.G. Becker and Celina A. Belleville and many nieces and nephews.
