Raymond Obert Coan, age 80 of Embarrass died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born April 28, 1936 in Pennington County, MN the son of John and Clara (Bye) Coan. Raymond grew up in Goodridge and moved to the Iron Range in the late 1950’s. He married Ann Ronkainen on October 24, 1958 in Tower. Raymond was employed by Erie Mining Company (LTV Steel) as a heavy equipment operator, and also farmed in Goodridge, MN. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Raymond loved to play his accordion, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.

Raymond is survived by children: Dean (Sheree) Coan of Tower, Dale (Cathy) Coan of Aurora, Arlene (Virgil) Hall of Makinen, Richard (Pheng Douangmichit) Coan of Northfield, Gary (Angie Downey) Coan of Bemidji, and Warren (Erica) Coan of Owatonna, MN; grandchildren: Amber (Ryan) Diebold, Dennis (Kassi) Coan, Sara (Eric) Milbridge, Amy Bolen, Joe (Maija) Bolen, Anna Hall, Lily Hall, Sean Feia, William Coan, Andrew Coan, Danielle Coan, Reid Coan, and Erin Coan; great-grandchildren: Charolatte Bolen, Colton Bolen, Mason Bolen, and Axton Bolen; sisters-in-law: Betty Coan and Susie Ronkainen; two nieces; numerous cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ann in 2014; brother: James Coan; brother-in-law: Donald Ronkainen.
