Ralph R. Smith, Jr. of Denton, MD, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. Known as “Mert”, he was 84 years old.
Born in Tuckahoe Neck near Denton on July 10, 1933, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Ralph Raymond Smith, Sr. and Julia Meeks Smith Lane. His wife, Mary Eloise Henry Smith, died April 11, 2003.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of Caroline High School in Denton. He drove a bread truck for Koesters’ and later for Sunbeam for 26 years. He later worked at Fisherman’s Inn in Grasonville, MD. He was a Life Member of the Denton Volunteer Fire Co. Mr. Smith is survived by a daughter, Connie Pippin (Carlton) of Denton; a son, Ted Raymond Smith of Federalsburg, MD; three grandchildren: Amy E. Pippin, Nikki Mattingly, and Sara Smith; and three great grandchildren. A son, Christopher Lee Smith, died April 16, 2000.
