Phippsburg – Philmore A. Gilliam, 86, of Phippsburg, passed away peacefully on Oct 31, 2016 at the Hawthorne House in Freeport where he had resided for the last 2 years. He was born on March 27, 1930 in Yonkers, New York to Oliver P and Mary Lyons Gilliam. He attended schools in Yonkers and Phippsburg.
Philmore worked at Strout’s Gas Station in Bath, Maine before going to work at Bath Iron Works in 1964. He worked in the Carpenters Shop where he was a leadman until he retired in 1992. He enjoyed being a carpenter in his spare time as well as a self-employed lobsterman. He built his home in West Point where he raised his family.
He was predeceased by his brothers; Robert E. and Norman P Gilliam; a sister, Maureen Murphy and a great grandson, Jonathan Wyman.
He leaves behind 2 daughters, Pamela baker and her husband Lester of Jefferson, Maine and Audrey Dullen and her husband Arlin of Howard, PA; sons, Brian Gilliam and wife Diana, Don A Gilliam and wife Tracy both of Phippsburg, Mark Gilliam of Topsham, and Joseph Gilliam and wife Shannon of West Bath, ME; a brother, James O Gilliam and wife Margaret of Palmetto, FL and a sister-in-law, Roberta Gilliam of West Point, ME; 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
