Pauline Elizabeth Barnes Powell, a lifelong resident of Damariscotta Mills, died peacefully at Chase Point surrounded by her loving family. She was born at home in South Bristol on December 31, 1929, the youngest daughter of James G. and Ethel H. Barnes. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, James and Morrill; and one sister, Grace. Polly was a 1947 graduate of Lincoln Academy, retiring from Sylvania Electric Company after 30 years of dedicated service. She happily spent her retirement years driving her well-loved car all over the midcoast area. An excellent swimmer, she spent her summers at Damariscotta Lake, and at Pemaquid beach, teaching her children and grandchildren to swim. She enjoyed having her hair and nails done, and playing bingo and cards with friends. Most afternoons you could find her sitting at the table in the front window of the Maine Coast Bookstore Café in Damariscotta, with a book in one hand and an iced coffee (with plenty of creme and three equals!) in the other, smiling and greeting everyone who came and went.
