Patricia “Patty” May Dyer

August 4, 1954

March 10, 2014

Freeport – Patricia May Dyer, “Patty”, 59 of Freeport passed away on March 10, 2014 at her home with family by her side. She was born on August 4, 1954 in Portland, a daughter of Calvin Roy Dyer Sr. and Anne (Ellis) Dyer. She grew up in Portland, graduating from Portland High School.

After high school, Patty began her first of three careers, being recruited to play professional womens’ basketball for the All-American Redheads. After her playing days, she began her work caring for the elderly and dying as an L.P.N. in nursing homes. She later went back to school, completing her undergraduate degree in psychology and master’s in social work, both at the University of New England. With that education, she most recently worked as a family therapist, which she practiced with exceptional clarity and cleverness. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Freeport Counseling Center and the Thomas Means Club in Freeport.

Patty was a smart, strategic thinker. She was intuitively keen, a person of tremendous courage and selflessness; she was willing to lay her life down for others. She was strong minded and open hearted. Serving others was one of her most deeply felt needs. Patty was a person of many talents.
