Naomi Campbell of St. James, Missouri departed this life on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Mo. Naomi Campbell was 85 years, 4 months and 18 days of age.
Naomi Campbell was born on August 28, 1927 in Washington County, Missouri on Bailey Branch to her parents: Reverend Norman and Laura Ellen (Thomas) Turnbough Roberts.
While young Naomi and her brothers, Carl and Luke enjoyed their summers playing in the hills and rivers around her family’s homestead in Czar, Mo. Some of her happiest years were spent there with both sets of Grandparents and her beloved Aunt Nettie and Uncle John Turnbough. Naomi grew up with her mother and two brothers in Cuba, Mo. She always loved the rivers, fishing, dancing, and laughing with her friends. Although she went on to do many jobs, she was especially proud of being a “railroader” during and after WWII. She traveled as a Station-Agent Operator working at various stations along the Frisco line. In 1947 Naomi married Robert Lionel Campbell at the Cuba Methodist Church. To this union three daughters were born: Tamara, Rene’, and Laura. Naomi and Bob lived many years in St. Louis and Mexico, Mo. In 1980 they moved to Steelville where they purchased the Rainbow Motel. Upon retiring they moved to St. James and in later years she made her home there with her daughter, Laura and her family. Naomi was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church where she loved her friends and quilting. She was also a devoted member of the Crawford County Historical Society and volunteered as a tour guide at their museum for many years. Her extensive knowledge of the people and places of Crawford County will be missed. She will be missed by her family Tamara Campbell of Rocheport, Mo.; Rene” and Lawrence Bushan of Rolla, Mo.; and Laura and David Bond of St. James, Mo.; and her four grandchildren: Lawrence (Lance) and Amanda Bushan and Dylan and Maji Bond. Naomi was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to her family and friends. She enjoyed a long and happy life. We are all richer for knowing her. She will be missed.
Surviving Naomi Campbell is three daughters: Tamara Lynn Campbell of Rocheport, Missouri; Rene’ Lee Bushan and husband Lawerence William of Rolla, Mo.; and Laura Leone Bond and husband David Len Bond of St. James, Mo.; four grandchildren: Lawrence William Lance Bushan Jr.; Amanda Mae Bushan; Dylan Patrick Bond, and Maia Elizabeth Bond.
Naomi Campbell was preceded in death is her parents: Norman and Laura Ellen (Thomas) Turnbough; husband: Robert Lionel Campbell of 51 years on March 4, 1998; three brothers: Carl; Luke and Norie Turnbough; and one sister: Dolly Turnbough; sister-in-laws; and brother-in-laws.
