Phippsburg – Norman True Nickerson, 76, of Main Road, Phippsburg, passed away on Thursday, December 6th at his home with his family by his side. He was born in South Haven, Michigan, on December 20, 1935 the son of Alonzo T. and Ruth (Shultz) Nickerson. As a young child his family moved to Maine and Norman attended Phippsburg Schools.
Norman joined the United States Army, stationed in Germany and proudly served our country. Upon returning to the states, he was employed as a school bus driver, and began his journey as a long-haul truck driver working for Bisson. He soon purchased his own truck,”Betsy” and became self-employed. A few years later he retired “Betsy” and purchased “Katie” until retiring at the age of 62. Not being able to sit still, Norman worked at the Hermit Island Campground for many summers. He was also a skilled carpenter and woodsman.
He married his soul mate, Laura A. Libby-Condon on December 1, 1962 and the couple resided in Phippsburg, in a home Norman built with his own hands.
Norman was a longtime member of the Phippsburg Fire Dept as a volunteer fireman.
He is predeceased by his parents, a sister, Ruth Ann Belanger, and brothers, Albert and Donald Nickerson.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Laura. Sisters, Marlene Hooper of Brunswick, Betty Kane and Diana Hodgdon of Woolwich and Mona Nickerson of Bangor; Brothers, Robert H. Nickerson of Woolwich and Charles A. Nickerson of Corpus Christi, Texas; Step Sons, Roger E. Condon and Lyman W. Condon of Phippsburg; Grandchildren, Jenn, Jocelyn and Matthew Condon and Molly Hanscom, all of Phippsburg. As well as many nieces and nephews.
