Norma Jean Laudal, 89, of Stephen, MN, died with her family by her side on Saturday, August 1, 2020, in Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND, her home these past thirteen years.

Jean was born on March 16, 1931, in Fork Township, Marshall County, MN, to Emil and Henrietta (Talbot) Hageman. One of eleven children, Jean grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On February 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to WWII veteran, Rudolph Laudal, in Battle Lake, MN. Rudy and Jean lived all 55 years of their married life in Stephen. Rudy died on April 8, 2005 and Jean continued living in Stephen until moving to Valley Senior Living, a retirement home in Grand Forks.

A hard worker, Jean started as a teenager in the potato fields, waited tables at a local restaurant (where she met her future husband), raised two boys, and later worked at the Red Owl store in Stephen. Jean loved to entertain. Whether it was with her piano playing or in having friends over for a meal, Jean enjoyed cooking and pulling out all the stops for her guests. She made sure you never left hungry and you’d always want to come back for more!

Celebrating her life after her passing are her sons, Terry (Sue) Laudal of Jamison, PA, and Scott Laudal of Stephen; grandson, Brad Laudal; granddaughters, Tabitha (Luke) Omodt, Donna Westmoreland, and Hollie (Lucas) Salazar; and great-grandchildren, Aaron, Jackson, Asher, Colton, and Zoe.

In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings; five brothers, Carl, Raymond, Floyd, Harold, and an infant; and five sisters, Agnes “Toots”, Mabel, Gladys, Frances, and Marlys.

Jean always tried to live her life by the Golden Rule (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.) and will be remembered for her kindness, courage, and desire to get things done.
