Nellie Ruth Simpson Jones died of natural causes on October 1, 2016. Nell was born on May 29, 1930 in Montgomery, Alabama to Lucian Lee Simpson and Eloise Hancock Simpson. She was a longtime member of the Baptist denomination, but for the past 10 years she has been an active member of Abundant Life Christian Center in Gautier, Mississippi.
There are three aspects of her life which stand out over all others: Her devotion and absolute love for her family and friends, her 20 years of excellent service in retail sales of women’s fine apparel at McRae’s Department Store, and the whole of her adult life as a servant of Christ in her community. People along the Gulf Coast know her as an intercessor prayer warrior, praying for all in need.
After her retirement at the age of 70 and the deaths of her husband, Ragon and daughter, Lynda, she volunteered at Volunteers In Medicine, Gautier. She was willing to listen and pray with folks in need. Nell was never too busy to pray. Many in Jackson County and beyond who received prayer experienced changed lives and divine healing.
Preceded in death by her dad and mom, her husband, her daughter, and her daughter’s husband Marshall Dunn. She is the last of her three siblings, preceded by her brother Romeo Simpson, her sister Katheryn Baltzer, her sister, Mary Helen Kimberl, and two of her nephews, Richard and David Kimberl.
She is also survived by her late husband’s sister Jean and husband Leslie Howell ,and their three children Janice, Joanne, and Mark; and her late husband’s brother, Dael and Janis, and their daughter Sharon.
Nell is survived by Lynda’s son, Shea Dunn, his wife Tayln, their children Annelise and Quinn; her son Danny Jones, his wife Ann Marie, their two children Tyler and Renee, and Renee’s husband, Gordon Lawson and their son Jye; her son Barry Jones , his wife, Brenda , three children, Mclain, Kimberly, and Carson,as well as Mclain’s wife Matille, their son Archie and Kimberly ‘s husband Ryan Lindsay and their daughter Blake Elizabeth.
She is also survived by her sibling’s children and their spouses: Eleanor and Larry Yarborough, Janice and Ed Williamson, Susan Kimberl and Jim Bushnell , and Allen and Kay Baltzer-each has multiple children and grandchildren.
This makes up quite a group of folks who loved and will be missing Nellie Ruth Simpson Jones…. A light shining softly and sometimes brilliantly in our lives and on our hearts, who continued to shine on, even when circumstances said it couldn’t be done! She’s still shining!
