Nellie L. Whithaus, 97, of Morrison, MO, passed away Saturday, December 30th, at Hermann Area District Hospital, Hermann, Missouri. Nellie was born in Rhineland, Missouri on October 5, 1920, a daughter of the late John Edwin and Martha M. (Stutenkemper) Niebruegge.
She attended elementary school in McKittrick and high school in McKittrick and Chamois.
On July 11, 1942 she was united in marriage Henry Carver, Mr. Carver passed away August 6, 1956 in Plato, Missouri. She then married Howard Louis Whithaus on December 27, 1959 in Morrison. Mr. Whithaus passed away on July 31, 1989 in Morrison.
She is survived by her daughters Julette Wade and husband Bill, Rockford, Illinois, Barbara Zastrow, Morrison and Karen Stafford and husband Gary, Union, by a brother James Niebruegge and wife Patsy, Plato, MO, by 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren , she is also survived by nieces and nephews and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, a brother Harold Niebruegge and a sister Edna Weicker.
Nellie was a member of the St. James United Church of Christ, Morrison, St. James Women’s Fellowship, which she was the secretary for many years, Fellowship Crusaders, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, 4-H leader, she was active with the Modern Woodman Youth Program, and the Riverview Chapter 315 Order of Eastern Star, Hermann which she was a member of for over 46 years.
She worked many jobs during her working days including the shoe factory in Chamois, she was a housekeeper in the Officers Quarters at Fort Leonard Wood, the Rawlings Ball and Glove Factory lacing baseball gloves and baseballs.
She loved the Lord, her church and her family she was especially proud to have 5 generations of family, she loved to watch birds, read and tell stories and she loved to bake bread and donuts.
