Naomi Phelps, age 92, passed away on Friday, May 16 at Green Acres assisted living facility in Lowell, Mi. where she had lived for the last two and half years. Prior to that she had resided in Ionia. She was born on February 27, 1922, the daughter of Myra Popendick. Naomi attending Cedar Lake Academy and then graduated from Ionia High School in 1940. She married Walter Phelps in 1941. A member of the Presbyterian Church for many years, an Ionia Country Club member, Boy Scout Troop Leader, and volunteer at the Ionia State Hospital. She loved to play golf on the Tuesday Women’s League and with friends. She enjoyed vacations going to Lake Michigan, trips to Northern Michigan, Florida, and California. Naomi was hardworking and a very proud individual. Surviving are her daughter, Kay (Mike) Bravo, of Morgan Hill, CA., daughter-in-law, Darla Phelps of Fenwick, grandchildren Scott (Lisa) Freund of Hollister, CA., Glen (Beth) Phelps of Rockford, Brian (Patrice) Phelps of Ionia, and six great grandchildren. Preceded in death mother Myra Popendick in 1981, Walter in 1994 and son Terry in 2011, sister Marie Harkness in 2004.
