Myrtle Lee Hobson, 89, transitioned on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at her residence in Oxford, MS.
Myrtle was born Mary Alice Ivy on July 26, 1933 to Ollie Ivy and Eddie Luster in Lafayette County Mississippi. She was quickly adopted as an infant by her loving parents, Allie and Luke Pegues, who then changed her name to Myrtle Lee Pegues.
Myrtle married Joe Lewis Hobson on November 13, 1965 in Pontotoc, MS. To this union four children were born. She and Joe each had one child prior to their marriage. Joe preceded her in death on December 15, 2004.
Myrtle was a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church until her health began to fail several years ago. During her active years at Salem, she faithfully served as an usher alongside her dear friend, Emma Westbrook.
Myrtle had a very strong love for people, especially children. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her so much joy. Although she loved them all equally, she shared an extra special bond with her youngest great grandson, Kaden. She affectionally called him ‘Frog’. During the last few months of her illness, when she became bedbound, Frog would come over every day and ask her; “granny, are you okay?”.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband; her biological parents; adoptive parents; her step- mother: Annie Lou Luster, five brothers: Jack Bowen, Albert (Lenora) Coleman, Sr., Henry Ivy. Willie Elton Luster. Roger Dale Luster, and 1. C. Luster; two sisters: Maelene (Willie) Sanders and Ella Luster.
Myrtle transitioned to her Heavenly home on Thursday (Thanksgiving Day). November 24, 2022 at home, surrounded by her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories three sons: Tommy Hobson, Joe (Shanica) Hobson, Jr., and Alvis (Delores) Hobson, all of Oxford, MS; two daughters: Mollie (Mack) Bean of Pontotoc, MS and Sherry Hobson of Oxford, MS; one step-son: Joe Willie Hobson of Okolona, MS; six grandchildren: William Bean, Teona Slack, Tyre (Jessika) Slack, Lakeedra Steele, Shayla Slack, and Keyshon Slack; five great-grandchildren: Jamarion, Jatavion, London, CJ., and Kaden; her bonus grandchildren: Ariyanna. Xavier, Justin, Melissa, Mack, Felisa, Stacy, and Milton; three sisters: Josie (McGlamory) Luster and Edna (Glover) Luster, both of Grand Rapids, MI, and Rosie (Blakley) Luster of Dallas, TX: two brothers: Herbert Luster and Wallace Luster, both of Grand Rapids; one step-sister: Cheyenne Shumpert of Oxford, MS; one sister-in-law: Flozell Woodard of Pontotoc, MS; one brother- in-law: Freddie Hobson of Pontotoc; her four close friends: Barbara Bowen, Willie Bell Hilliard, Jerldean Stewart, and Georgia Glover Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
