Myla Delberta Chapel of Dillard, Missouri, formerly of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the age of 92 years. She was born November 5, 1922 in Torrington, Wyoming to Edward Howard Nolan and Florence Belle Brayton Nolan. She was united in marriage to Gaylord Fredrick Chapel who preceded her in death.
During WWII, Myla worked at the train depot in the San Diego, CA telegraph office. In later years, she helped her husband with his construction business, however she spent most of her life loving and caring for her family especially “Dewey” her Down’s syndrome child.
She was a member of the Christian Science Church in Albuquerque. In her earlier years, she enjoyed hunting, fishing and baking. She also loved to read and finding unusual rocks.
She is survived by her two daughters, Gayla Cowling and husband Robert of Dillard, MO and Pamela Ann Gurule and husband Edward Joseph of Truth or Consequences, NM; five grandchildren, Casey Campbell Nothum of Washington, MO, Chanda Campbell Hakanson of St. Louis, MO, Cinnamon Campbell Michelek of Washington, MO, Ben Campbell of Suvi, Fiji and Ginger Gurule of Truth or Consequences, NM; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister Margaret Virginia Tyson of Ft. Collins, CO; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gaylord Chapel; two sons, Gay Warren “Dewey” Chapel and Benjamin Howard Chapel; one daughter, Gayla Nolene Chapel; one brother, Willis James Nolan; and two sisters, Helen Mae Clark and Alice Kathleen Thompson.
There will be an inurnment in Albuquerque, NM.
