CHULAHOMA, MS- Mrs. Irma Jean Burnside Jackson (Linda), 59, of Chulahoma, Mississippi, passed away suddenly on July 29, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Linda was born in Cold Water, Mississippi on April 6th, 1958 to R. L. and Alice Mae Burnside. From an early age, Linda could be depended upon to be a loyal, caring friend and family member. Her father, R.L., as well as several of her brothers and eventually, both of her sons, were well respected blues musicians. They often traveled the world, playing Mississippi Hill Country Blues to adoring fans. However, those same men, as well as the rest of the Burnside family, considered Linda a superstar, in her own right. She had a larger than life personality and was known for her humor and quick wit. More importantly, both friends and family always knew they could rely on her for support, no matter the circumstances. She consistently displayed unconditional love and her presence will be sorely missed. However, the family rejoices in the knowledge that she is celebrating a heavenly reunion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.L. and Alice Mae Burnside, her husband, Calvin Jackson, her brothers, R.L. Burnside, Jr. and Calvin Burnside, her sister Mildred Jean Johnson, and her son, Courtney “Cody” Jackson.
She is survived by her son, Cedric Burnside; her daughter: Sonya Jackson; seven brothers: Melvin (Kelly) Burnside, Daniel (Dawn) Burnside, Joseph Burnside, Duwayne (Nicole) Burnside, Dexter (Linda) Burnside, Garry (Tarika) Burnside, a half-brother, Rodger Harmon; her two sisters: Brenda Brooks (Robert) and Pamela Burnside; seven grandchildren; her longtime companion, Essie Stewart, a host of nieces, nephews and a long list of other family and friends.
