HOULKA- Mr. Willie Frank Atkinson, Sr., 85, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his home in Houlka. Willie Frank Atkinson, Sr. was born to the late Cleora and Frank Atkinson in 1934. He was educated in Houlka, MS, left home at an early age, and traveled around the country. Frank was the “Jack of all Trades” better known as Uncle Frank, Pops, Old Man, Mr. Frank and Daddy to many, he was well-known. He worked as a construction worker for many years, a school bus driver and was employed at AstroLounger and Washington MFG. in Houlka. He also delivered furniture out of state as a truck driver. He even helped build on the Tenn-Tom Waterway and many other projects around the state of Mississippi.
Willie Frank was deeply loved by his children and grandchildren but, he was truly loved by his loving and precious wife Mary who stood by him for better or worse until the end with love. He and his wife were members of the Gordon Chapel COGIC Church Family.
Bro. Atkinson also obtained the title of Master Mason and was one of the founding members of Houlka Lodge #165 of Prince Hall Free and Excepted Mason (non attive).
He loved life, God, and was blessed to see all his children grown. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Mary of 58 years, seven sons and six daughters: Mary Louise Smith of Kalamazoo, MI, Scottie Buchanan, Una Francis Below (Charles), Annie Mae Buggs (Mike), Racheal Green, Jean Atkinson, Curtis Huggin (Betty), Willie Frank Atkinson, Jr., Roger Lee Atkinson, all of Houlka, MS, Charles Holsey of Algoma, MS, Wayne Atkinson (Crystal) of Houlka, MS and Tyrone Atkinson of Wren, MS, brother: Eugene Beaty (Dorothy) of Houlka, MS, sister: Effie Johnson of Okolona, MS, Rose Beaty of Houston, MS, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives. Three special friends: Leland Townsend (Ella) Lester Davis (Pearline) and Lee Raymond Naugle all of Houlka, MS, special niece: Helen Taylor of Calhoun City, MS, special nephew: John Moore of Grand Rapids, MI. The family would like to apologize if we missed anyone.
Frank Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Willie frank and Cleora Atkinson, one brother: Willie Joe Atkinson (Betty) of Houlka, MS two sisters: Ollie Pearl Moore of Grand Rapids, MI and Lena Mae Spence of Arkansas.
