PONTOTOC- Mr. Shelly B. Steele, 71, was born July 28, 1946 to U.S. Steele, Sr. and Myrtle Steele in Houston, Mississippi. On Friday evening, August 11, 2017, at the New Albany Health and Rehabilitation Center, he departed this life, answered the Master’s Call and took hold of the Master’s hand. Shelly was a quiet man with outspoken love for his family. He was formerly of Beloit, WI, where he was the first African-American Paramedic at Beloit Fire Department. He also served in the United States Military.
He is survived by one son: Sheldon Steele of Dayton, OH and one daughter: Claudia (James) Elzie of Pontotoc, MS, one brother: U.S. Steele, Jr. of Rockford, IL, two sisters: Maxine Givhan of Beloit, WI and Betty Steele Hamer of Rockford, IL, seven grandchildren: Sheldon, James, Jr., Jamar, Mariah, Jamia, Asja and Keira, three great-grandchildren: Deniro, Stacha and Rylan along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Myrdia May Carr and Shirley Bonner.
