Shirley Black was born July 4, 1942, to the late Charles and Dora Black in Byhalia, Mississippi and was the wife of the late John Henry Smith Sr.

On Wednesday , November 2, 2022, this strong mother in mind and spirit was called home by her heavenly father at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi. She joined her husband John Henry Smith Sr. ; her parents Charles and Dora Black; four brothers Lee Willie Jefferson (Louise) Andrew Jefferson(Bertha) Charles Black Jr.(Lonnie), and CL Black; three sisters: Betty Williams (Rev Willie Willliams) Matilda Nevills; Fannie Smith ; one grandson Patrick Smith, one granddaughter Andrea Smith, one Great grandson, Izayah Mays as they all rest peacefully together.

Shirley Nobel Smith enjoyed fishing , cooking for her family and loved ones , doing cross word puzzles , shopping for herself and others , and was most famously known for her love filled homemade caramel cakes . She joined the church back in 1983 where she served on the motherboard at Hopewell COGIC for roughly 27 to 28 years . After which she joined Holy Trinity and served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Richard L. Summers .

She leaves behind one sister Perrole Rocket (Rev Charle Rocket), her children Charlene Mays, Earline Summers ( Richard), Fannie Coleman (Brandon) , Ester Smith,  John Henry Smith Jr. (Latoya), Joseph Gordan Smith (Betty Mae) Andrew Smith, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and loved ones .
