Mrs. Rena Murray was affectionately known as “Biggie” to all of her kids and grandkids. The community knew her as Ms. Rena and her church family will never forget Mother Murray. She confessed and acknowledged Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of the Everdale Missionary Baptist Church, where she first received the power of the Holy Ghost. Mother Murray became a devout soldier of the Lord to House of Prayer Church of God In Christ. She remained at this house of faith until the departure of her life. Mother Murray was a faithful, dedicated, testifying, shouting and praising God member until her health failed.
Mrs. Rena was always known to lend a helping hand to everyone she knew. Her involvement in the community allowed her to be well known for her friendly, outgoing spirit. She was a pillar of love, who loved all people, and never met a stranger.
She knew how to fundraise for people in need, even while she was in the nursing home. We all remember “Hey brother (or sister) lay something in my hand.” She touched many lives. She opened her doors to many people in need. She fed the hungry and gave to the homeless -clothing or food.
Mrs. Rena Murray worked at an early age in cotton fields, and took care of children. She was also employed at Motts Poultry, Inc. and Holley Automotive. She retired at 62 years old and later became a Foster Grandparent at North MS Regional Center until the age of 86.
