Mitsuko “Mitzi” Shaw, age 83 a longtime resident of Tower passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at United Hospital in St. Paul. She was born June 7, 1932 in Formosa, Japan the daughter of Jinji and Koto Ito. Mitzi married Donald Shaw on December 23, 1953 in Fukuoka, Japan while he was stationed at the Itazuki Air Base and they have made their home in Embarrass, Aurora and Tower. She was employed by the Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory in Eveleth and demonstrated loom rug weaving at Ironworld. She was a member of the former Aurora Moose Lodge. Mitzi enjoyed all types of hand work including: knitting, crocheting, beading, sewing, weaving, wool spinning, sewing, quilting and was known for her good cooking and baking. Her socks, mittens, scarves, hats, and fresh bread created many special memories. She liked to go camping, fishing, traveling, cross country skiing and wild ricing. In later years, Mitzi enjoyed shopping, going to craft festivals, and going out to eat.

Mitsuko is survived by children: Robert Shaw of Saginaw, Linda Shaw of Virginia, Wanda Shaw of Minong, Wendy (Shawn) Lamere of Iron and Dale (Myranda) Shaw of Hibbing; siblings: Teruko (George) Palmer of Ocala, FL, and Junji and Naburo Ito of Japan; grandchildren: Aubie Shaw, Mandy Shaw, Jody (Garrett) Kaivola, Tim Frazee, William Dresselt, Mitsuko “Ko” Shaw and Cassie Lamere; great-grandchildren: Garrett, Jr., Ashton, Kelsea, Angelina, Tim Jr., Taylor, and Alyson; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Don; Son: Larry and an infant daughter.
