Milford A. Birkmann, 95, of New Haven, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 at New Haven Care Center, New Haven Missouri.
Milford was born in New Haven, Missouri on November 12, 1919, the son of the late Oscar & Mathilda (Gerlemann) Birkmann.
Milford proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a rifleman. He was wounded in 1945 and was discharged and awarded a purple heart medal, a good conduct medal, and a Asiatic Pacific Campaign ribbon with two bronze service stars.
He was the widower of Ella C. (Scheible) Birkmann. They were married on December 20, 1941, at Stony Hill, Missouri. Ella preceded him in death on October 2, 2012.
Milford was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ of Berger, the New Haven American Legion,, Disabled American Veterans and the 96th Infantry Association. He was a farmer his whole life.
Milford is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Frueh & husband Frank of Washington, Missouri; Peggy Scego, of New Haven, Missouri, a son, Harvey Birkmann & wife of Dorothy, of Union, Missouri; a brother, Oscar Birkmann, of New Haven, Missouri, by six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, by two brothers Elmer & Herbert Birkmann, two sisters Hulda Birkmann and Viola Brautigam and by two grandchildren.
