Mildred “Teta” Stokich, age 100, longtime resident of Kelly Lake died Friday, August 15, 2014, in her home on Swan Lake, with family at her side. She was born July 4, 1914, in Vancouver, BC, the daughter of Sam and Sophie (Knocher) Vukmir. She attended school in Hibbing. Millie was united in marriage to George Stokich in Los Angeles, CA, in 1944.
Millie worked at Central Laundry until 1941, and then moved to Chicago to work as a manager in the Calumet Dry Cleaning Plant. She returned to Kelly Lake in 1949 with her brother to help run the Kelly Lake Inn. She worked at Burlington Northern from 1952 to 1981. She was a charter member of St. Michael’s Serbian Orthodox Church in Hibbing.
