Mildred “Millie” Seme, age 86 of Duluth and longtime resident of Ely, died Friday, March 27, 2009 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Duluth. She was born April 12, 1922 in Ely, the daughter of Thomas and Hilda (Ahola) Skantz. The family moved to Embarrass where Millie graduated from high school in 1939. She married Louis Seme in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on June 26, 1942 and resided in Ely. She moved to Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center on October 15, 2007 from Keystone Bluffs, a year after her husband’s death. Millie loved the Lord, her husband and family, and life. She always had kind encouraging words and a smile for all. She was an excellent seamstress, a member of Ely’s Watercolor Club, and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary.
Millie is survived by two daughters, Gloria (Ronald) Asher of Lake Wales, FL, and Margaret (Rodney) Cordts of Superior, WI; three granddaughters, Rhonda (Robert) Letterio of Westerville, OH, Tamara (Peter) Deming of Fredericksburg, VA, and Christina Cordts of Minnetonka, MN; three great-grandchildren, Samantha and Dominic Letterio, and Anthony (Tamara) Anderson; one niece; two nephews; two great-grandnieces; and one great-great-grandniece.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis on November 19, 2006; and eight siblings.
