Mildred “Millie” Katherine Harman Toquinto passed away peacefully on 2/28/14 at HeartFields
Alzheimer’s Assisted Living Home in Frederick, MD.
She was born on July 22, 1928 in Alaska, WV (now known as Fort Ashby), the youngest child of
the late Verna (Greenawalt) and o. Abe Harman. The last member of her immediate family, she
was preceeded in death by sister Ruth Harman Williamson and brothers, Herbert, Earl, John,
Coolidge “Cood”, and Herman.
Millie is survived by her children, Pam Menso (Gary), Vicki Chaffman (AI), Vince Toquinto and
Jeff Toquinto (Martha); grandchildren: Rebecca Menso, Karen Gaither (Brad), Rusty Menso
(Sara), Sean Chaffman (Kristen), Tim Chaffman (Jordan), Darryl Toquinto and Dominic Toquinto;
great-grandchildren, Hayley and Jacob Gaither, Courtney, Kensley and Joel Chaffman, and
Leonardo Menso; sister-in-law Jean Bishoff Harman; step-sister, Barbara Haines Milleson;
numerous nieces and nephews; and will be remembered by her lifelong friends, Alice Lough
and Betty Snyder.
After graduation, Millie attended business school and worked as a secretary for West Virginia
University. After her children reached school age, Millie returned to the work force. She was
employed by Montgomery County Public Schools as the attendance secretary at Gaithersburg
Elementary School until her retirement in 1991.
She moved from Keyser, WV to Gaithersburg, MD in 1954 and lived there 40 years, after which
she moved to Mt Airy/Frederick.
daughter’s Woodfield Elementary school in Damascus, MD, sunbathing by the pool or at the
beach and working on word puzzles.
Her family is grateful for the love and care Millie received from Heartfield’s and Hospice’s
caregivers, nurses and staff as well as the spiritual guidance and support by the Reverend Jerry
