Bath – Michael J. Concannon, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 2nd in his home in Bath, Maine.
Michael was born in Portland, Maine on April 13, 1928, the sixth of seven children born to Coleman Concannon and Delia Curran, who were both from Ireland. He is pre-deceased by all his siblings: Patrick Concannon, Anne Cloutier, Mary Keaney, Louis Concannon, William Concannon and Julia (Judy) Cichosz.
Michael graduated from Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine in 1946 and from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 1950. Michael attended seminary at the University of Montreal, Quebec and was ordained in 1954. Following the priesthood, Michael worked for the Teamsters Union in Detroit, Michigan from 1965 to 1985. He then returned to Maine and worked briefly as a social worker and substance abuse counselor.
In 1986, he met Gebke Aletta (Letty) Zwaan of Woolwich, Maine. They married in 1992. Together, they lived in Woolwich, Phippsburg, Ocala (Florida), and then Bath. Letty died in 2007. Michael was a devoted husband to Letty and brought much happiness into her life.
Michael is survived by his stepsons, Maarten Zwaan of Phippsburg, Maine and Anthony Zwaan of Exeter, New Hampshire, their children and grandchildren, and by his Concannon nieces and nephews.
The family is also grateful for the love and care Michael received from the staff and volunteers at CHANS Home Health and Hospice, as well as his neighbors and good friend Marjorie Reinertson.
