Merlin Eleanor (Rowe) Moulton

Portland- Merlin R. Moulton passed away after brief illness on October 11, 2013 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Merlin was born on November 27, 1921 in Rangeley, Maine to Una (Nile) and Benton Rowe. She married Robert G. Moulton on May 12, 1939, and they moved to Portland in 1941. Merlin and Bob were avid golfers, and Merlin achieved two holes in one at Riverside Golf Course within a fifteen year span. Merlin and her family spent many wonderful summers at their second home on Rangeley Lake. Her husband predeceased her in 1997 after fifty-eight years of marriage.

Merlin had many talents and was a wonderful cook. She especially enjoyed needlework, knitting, quilting, and time spent in her beautiful garden. But her greatest joy was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who considered her to be the world’s greatest Nana.

Merlin was a member of the Central Square Baptist Church, Eastern Star, and the Women’s Woodfords Club, and she was very much involved in her community.

Besides her parents and husband, Merlin was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Lou Moulton, and her brother, Edgar Rowe, Sr. She is survived by her two daughters, Judith M. Lawrence of Gray and Katherine G. Moulton of Cumberland; three grandchildren, Molly Dentremont, Robert Harriman, Sr., and Jennifer Greenlaw; three great-granddaughters, Sara Minnich, Alexandra O’Brien, and Ashley Dentremont; and four great-grandsons, Scott Dentremont, Robert Harriman, Jr., Aubrey Greenlaw, and Addison Greenlaw.

Mrs. Moulton’s family would like to thank all the staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for the wonderful care she received while there.
