Melvin H. Menke, 88, of Rosebud, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Gasconade Manor Nursing Home, Owensville, Missouri. 

Melvin was born in New Haven, Missouri on May 24, 1929, a son of the late Emil August & Dena (Hoelscher) Menke.

He was the very devoted husband of LaValle  J. (Diederich) Menke.  They were united in marriage on January 24, 1953, at St. Louis, Missouri.  LaValle preceded him in death on November 13, 2012.

Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Rosebud, Missouri and the American Legion Post 587, Rosebud.   He worked at the Chrysler Automotive plant in Fenton for many years.

In his free time he enjoyed wood working, making crafts, cooking and baking birthday cakes.  He also thoroughly enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s activities, going camping, and for walks and staying physically fit.

Melvin is survived by a daughter Cynthia L. Wehmeyer & husband Charles, of Rosebud; a son James I. Menke & wife Wanda, of Bland; and a daughter Christina “Tina” E. McCurry & husband Douglas, of Rosebud, by six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.   He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and by a daughter-in-law Annette Menke.
