SOUTH PORTLAND – Melody Dawn Ireland, 64, died on June 6, 2015 after her battle with cancer at a Portland health care facility. She was born in Camden, ME on June 30, 1950, the daughter of the late Maurice Howard and Marilyn (Griffeth) Howard.
Melody graduated from Yarmouth High School, Class of 1968. She attended the University of Southern Maine Teaching College in 1969 and held several positions throughout her professional career as a teacher in Van Buren, ME, a librarian at the Millinocket Memorial Library, manager of the book store in Millinocket, ME, and worked 15 years as a patient registration representative at Mercy Hospital in Portland until her retirement in 2014. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and Nana dedicating all of her spare time to her family. The family thanks the staff of Mercy Hospital for the loving care Melody received while she was there.
She was survived by her mother Marilyn Howard, brother Mitchell Howard, her three sons; Vincent Ireland III, Christian Ireland, and Charles Ireland, her two daughter-in-laws; Susan Ireland and Mary Ireland, her five grandchildren; Kathie Ireland, Shay Ireland, Ella Ireland, Jace Ireland, and Amelia Ireland.
