MAYNARD DUANE JOHNSON OBITUARY

Maynard Duane Johnson (Duane to everyone who knew him) passed away peacefully on July 15, 2015. He was born April 21, 1926 in Eveleth, MN to John and Liisa Matilda (Tillie) Johnson. He was raised in Eveleth and also spent substantial time with his Aunt and Uncle John and Mary Hendrickson who ran a successful bakery in Eveleth. He graduated from Eveleth High School where he was on the swimming team and attended Eveleth Junior College before entering the Navy in 1944. After honorably serving his Country, he attended Dunwoody Institute studying Baking and later the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Duluth where he ultimately obtained a Masters in Education. He was a Teacher for 37 years first in Two Harbors, MN and later in Hibbing, MN where he influenced two generations of students. He retired in 1990 and with his wife Doris moved to his beloved lake place at Ely Lake where he spent many wonderful years with family and friends. He was a lifetime member of both the Masons and the Elks and while in Hibbing was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hibbing. He enjoyed entertaining, crossword puzzles, and bridge, and well into his 80’s enjoyed the work his large yard always required.
He is survived by his son Dan (612-578-4003), his daughter in law Joan, and grandsons Paul and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris and his son Leif.
A Graveside Service will be held on August 29th at 1:00 at the Eveleth Cemetery
