Maxine J. Powers of Centreville, MD, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville. She was 76 years old.
Born in Ridgely, MD on July 16, 1941, Mrs. Powers was the daughter of the late Phillip Harwood George and Lillian Arminta Coverdale George. She and her husband, R. Wayne Powers were married on July 28, 1981 and currently resided in Centreville, MD.
Mrs. Powers had worked as a Clerk for the U.S. Post Office in both Denton, MD and Dover, DE from which she retired in 2003 after 23 years. She was a proud member of the Lions serving as part of both the Capital City Lions, Smyrna Lions and the Dover Lioness Clubs. Maxine served as President and Secretary for her Lions Clubs, as well as the District Governor’s Cabinet Secretary. She loved to collect stamps, travel, and sew, but most of all, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren playing sports and participating in the hobbies they loved.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Powers is survived by a son, G. Brian Jones of Harrington, DE, his wife Karen and their boys, Landon & Cameron; a daughter, Aly Meiklejohn of Queen Anne, MD, her husband Randy, and their daughter, Alexis; brother, Robert George; three Special nieces, Deena Yale, Lisa Hignutt, and Kim George; stepdaughter, Cynthia Mueller of Gettysburg, PA, her husband Chris, and their children Madelyn and Chase; stepson, Stephen Powers of Concord, NC, his wife Kelly, and their children, Kaela, Olivia, & Ethan.
