Mavis was a member of the First Baptist Church and often volunteered in her community. She married James Clayton Townsend on October 5, 1951 and he passed away on August 27, 1994. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brothers, Willard, Virgil and Carl. Surviving are her children Marvin (Julie) Townsend and Janet Townsend; 3 grandchildren, Chelsea, Andrew, and Julie Kastelan; sister Faith Cole.
