Maureen E. Murphy
Woolwich – Maureen E. “Moe” Murphy, 70 of Chopps Cross Rd. died unexpectedly Thursday March 25, 2010.
She was born in Bath on February 8, 1940 a daughter of William H. and Helen Baker Clancy, and was raised by her grandparents, Walter and Estella Baker. She was educated in the local schools and attended Morse High School.
Maureen first started working for Bill Whorff and drove an old Brockway Dump Truck, which no one else could drive. Later she drove a School Bus in Woolwich for ten years because no other driver could control her school age children. In 2004 she retired from Maine Dept. of Transportation after many years of service, to care for her great granddaughter, Lexi.
She loved animals especially her faithful friend Stedman, crocheting, scrapbooking, her flower gardens, car shopping (though she never bought one), and QVC. Suduko and Wordfinds were other interests she never found time to do since retiring. Maureen always said her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life. Her grandson Danny Morton was her “maintenance man”, doing anything and everything she needed to have done.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Smith Tobey Post 21; and the Wednesday Night Sketti Club.
Maureen is predeceased by her grandmother Estella Baker and her sister, Sandra Pierce.
Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Morton and her companion Dennis Brillant, Brenda Reed and her husband David; four sons, Billy Murphy and his wife Chris, John Murphy Jr. and his companion Tina Oliver, Ronald Murphy, and Patrick Murphy and his wife Joanne, all of Woolwich; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
