FALL RIVER – Matthew Mendonca, a longtime Taunton resident, died unexpectedly at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River on Feb. 6, 2010.
He was 51.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late George and Angelina (Rodrigues) Mendonca.
Raised and educated in Taunton, Matt was employed by the Checker Cab Co. as a driver for many years, before retiring due to disability.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, and camping.
He also enjoyed auto mechanics, an interest that began at an early age, tinkering with bicycles in his back yard.
Survivors include a daughter, Melanie A. Kingsley of Tiverton, RI; a son, Matthew Mendonca of N. Dartmouth; three brothers, Edward Mendonca of Taunton, Michael Mendonca of Fall River and Mark Mendonca of Melbourne, FL; four sisters, Donna Welch, Ann and Michelle Mendonca, all of Taunton, and Deborah Johnson of Plymouth; two grandchildren, Angelea and Nicholas Kelley, both of Tiverton; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Carol Brooks.
Matt’s family is planning a private celebration of his life.
Traditional Services and Calling Hours are omitted.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
