Matthew Edman, 88, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2023.
Matthew was born May 22, 1934 to Victor and Stella (Sands) Edman at the family farm, known as “The Home Place”. He graduated from Alvarado School in 1952 and went on to earn degrees from the University of MN and University of WI. He was a member of the National Guard, taught school in Argyle and Roseville, worked for Northwestern Farm Management, and worked at Minnkota Power Cooperative for 25 years until his retirement in 1996.
Matthew married Lois Kittelson in 1960. In 1995 they moved to The Home Place in Alvarado, where they remodeled and lived in the house where Matt was born.
Matthew was always active in his community. He belonged to the Lion’s club in EGF and Alvarado, American Legion, International Right-of-Way Association, served on several church councils, and the Agassiz Swedish Heritage Society.
Most importantly, Matthew was a man of faith and family. Along with their children, Matt and Lois went on many camping trips around the country and family bike rides. Matt would say that he and Lois “traveled around the world,” including all 50 states and 11 countries.
Matthew is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lois, of East Grand Forks; children, Susan (Brian) Larson, Patricia Edman, and Paul (Julie) Edman; grandchildren, Benjamin (Emma) Hulteng, Anna (Aaron) Bohl, Sara (Nick) Hovde, Alex Larson, Kate Edman, and Rylan Edman; great-grandchildren, Noah Magsam, Brynnlei and Aubree Bohl; sister, Margaret Larson; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; and brother, Victor Gladden Edman.
