Age 97, went home to her Lord on September 10, 2005. She was born on January 14, 1908 in Portland, MI the daughter of Morris and Ida (Mallet) Wheeler. Mary worked at the Shirt Factory in Portland when she was younger and also at a factory in Ionia. While raising her children she also raised chickens and sold eggs, also sheep and a big garden, doing lots of canning. She loved crossword puzzles, raised a big flower garden but loved her roses most of all. She was very active in crocheting and made Afghans for a number of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Mt. Hope Church of Portland. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Forest J. Stiffler whom she married on June 5, 1926. Also preceding her in death were 2 sons; 1 great grandson; 1 great granddaughter. Surviving are 1 daughter, Barbara (Robert) Hendee of Portland; 3 sons, Theodore (Orpha) Stiffler of Mulliken, Dale (Gladys) Stiffler of Portland, and Robert (Connie) Stiffler of Portland; 20 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren.
