Mary Etta Shaffer went to be with The Lord on Sunday, November 13, 2016. She was 84 years old. Born on Wye Island, MD on August 7, 1932, Mrs. Shaffer was the daughter of the late Perry Lee Whitby and Elizabeth Pinder Whitby. She married her husband, Clarence J. Shaffer, Jr. on September 1, 1950. They had made their home in Chester, PA before moving to Queen Anne, MD in 1955. Her husband died on April 29, 1976. She was a homemaker and seamstress and enjoyed sewing, crafts, and bingo. Mrs. Shaffer is survived by one son, Clarence J. Shaffer, III and his wife Doris of Cordova, MD and one daughter, Beverly L. Altvater and her husband David of Trappe, MD; two grandsons: Brian D. Altvater and his wife Clara of Trappe and Matthew P. Altvater of Trappe; one great Granddaughter, Renee Lynne Altvater of Trappe, one step-grandson, Eric Knoedler and his wife Tina of Manheim, PA; a sister, Frances Morris of Cordova, MD; and a special sister-in-law, Yvonne S. Mattero of Claymont, DE. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by two sisters, Bessie Borga and Sara Middleton, and three brothers, Winnie Whitby, Sr., Ernest Whitby, and Daniel Whitby.
