Mary Elizabeth “Sally” Fitzpatrick, 96, died peacefully at home in Newcastle, ME on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Sally was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 23, 1914, the oldest child of Leon C. and Katherine (Carr) Harding. Sally was a member of the first four-year class to graduate from John Bapst High School in Bangor, in 1932. After high school, she attended Castine Normal School and later worked for the WPA in Augusta. In 1936 she married Joseph Fitzpatrick, who predeceased her in 1978. They were married for 42 years, and together they raised a family of six daughters and two sons, and successfully ran a construction company in the Bangor area. They especially enjoyed many years at their Green Lake cottage, as well as their hobby of racing harness horses. In her later years, Sally lived in the Kennebunk area until her move to Newcastle in 2003. Sally’s family meant the world to her, and her to them. She is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Gerding of Newcastle, Sylvia and husband Ed Libby of Camden, Catherine and husband Jim Pierce of Amelia Island, Florida, Mary and husband Jim McGrath of Newcastle with whom she made her home, Dorothy and husband Donald Tarzia of Hingham, MA, and Ruth and husband Laurent Rioux of Edgecomb; and by her sons, Joseph and wife Diane of Alfred, and Ed and wife June of Kennebunkport. She is also survived by a sister, Marie Costello, of West Hartford, CT; as well as thirty grandchildren, and fifty great-grandchildren.
