Cape Elizabeth- Mary Elizabeth Johnson 80, of Cape Elizabeth, died peacefully after complications due to pneumonia on Tuesday December 9, 2014.
Born in Portland, Maine on March 1, 1934, to Doris and Norman Durost, Mary is survived by her husband of 43 years, Carl W. Johnson of South Portland Maine. Mary is also survived by her younger sister Brenda Belanger, her husband Paul Belanger and family; Mary’s older brother Charles Durost and his wife Theresa Durost; and Mary’s nephew Lee Anderson, his wife Robin Anderson and family. Mary is also survived by her beloved dog Mindi Johnson.
Mary was a graduate of Deering High school in Portland, Maine. She had a long proud career with UNUM in their Portland offices and, following retirement, continued working as a volunteer for several charitable agencies including the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. While at Unum she was an avid bowler in the Unum league where she enjoyed great times with peers and colleagues.
Mary’s life was rich with a passion for all the dogs she had the pleasure of raising- the final being her sweet Mindi, the frogs she enjoyed so much, and the spoons she collected from all the places she and Carl traveled in the motor home during their time together. But her true happiness was found on Thomas Pond.
