Bowman, Mary Johnson 81, of Naples, FL, died peacefully on October 25, 2013, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was adored and deeply loved by her family and her cherished circle of friends. Born on September 23, 1932, in Minneapolis, she was the oldest child of Dr. Harry A. and Ester A. Johnson. Mary grew up on Browndale Avenue in Edina, attended West High School and graduated from Carleton College in 1954 where she studied English and Poetry. After a brief career in advertising at BBDO, she wed Bradley C. Bowman II in 1957 and moved to Wayzata to start a family. Mary was deeply committed to her community, her friends, and her family. She was an active member of the Greater Naples Leadership, Naples Philharmonic, the Sustainers’ Club of Naples, and Trinity by-the-Cove. She was a member of WAMSO, Northwestern Hospital Auxiliary Board, Junior League, St. Martin’s by-the- Lake, Wayzata Garden Club, Lake Minnetonka Garden Club, and The Study Club. Mary was a past president of the Friends of the Institute, a board member of Stevens Square Foundation and Society of Fine Arts, and served as a docent for 34 years at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Mary was a great friend to many; her friends were an inspiration and a delight.
