Mary Alice Elizabeth Rohner was born June 11, 1970, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Mark and Sharon (Watkins) Rohner. She graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1988 and from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 1992 with a degree in Human Development. In high school she worked as a page at the Chevy Chase Library in Maryland. She worked for Executive Child Development Center in Bethesda, MD, and since 2004 had been a director of The Children in the Shoe child care center in Bethesda. She joked that she was back where she started, since the center is across the street from B-CC, her high school.
She married Timothy C. Jenkins on September 1, 2007. They resided in Damascus, MD. She loved traveling with Tim, reading, Baltimore Orioles baseball, Paul McCartney, James Stewart—and most especially, being with her family and friends. She organized the annual RoPipJen Chili Cookoff, a winter event the whole family anticipated. She created enough special categories so that everyone in the family could receive an award.
She is survived by her husband, Tim; parents, Mark and Sharon, Rosemont, MD; grandmother, Virginia Rohner, Dubuque, IA; siblings, Susanna (Clinton) Pipkin, Gwynn Oak, MD; Adam (Brandy) Rohner, Baltimore, MD, and Frederic (Chelsea) Rohner, Knoxville, MD. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Cherise, Kayla, Mark, John (her godson), and Adam; in-laws, Jeff (Michele) Jenkins and Laurie (Ed) Crowe, of Frostburg, MD; aunts and uncles, including William (Kathy) Rohner, her godfather, Peoria, IL; Daniel (Kim) Rohner and Ellen (Dennis) Kremer, Dubuque; and her godmother, Loretta (Stephen) Hanson, Williamsburg, IA.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frederic M. Rohner and Harry and Alice Watkins.
The Jenkins and Rohner families wish to express their deepest thanks to the staff of the Dorsey Unit at Lorien for their kind and compassionate care of Mary Alice since April 2016.
