Our loving husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather went home to his family in heaven on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. He was born on April 14, 1930 in Westphalia the son of Ferdinand and Antoinette (Arens) Platte. Marvin loved his country and the flag that protects us all. He was a combat war veteran of the Korean War with the Army 2nd Division 38th Regiment on the Hill of Baldy which divides North and South Korea. He served on the front line for nine months and what brought him home safely were prayers by his mother to St. Jude. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge. Marvin was a member of St. Patrick Church in Portland, Catholic Order of Foresters, the V.F.W. Post #3373, and the band Frannie and the Swingsters, popular in the 50″s and 60’s. He was appointed on the Clinton Co. Road Commission for 9 years, was a area farmer and was in the tiling business for many years. He raised his family on a farm with his wife of 57 years, Mary. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth. Surviving are his wife, Mary (Thelen); children Susan and Cary Cuyler of Florida, Beverly Platte Parsley and Ben Page of Lansing, Linda and Steve Whitney of Missouri, Ted and Kerri Platte of Westphalia and Janet and Tony Blundy of Portland; 7 grandchildren Kaitlyn Parsley and Billy Parsley, Sophia Whitney, Emily, Elliot and Elyse Platte and Claudia Meeker; siblings Dolores Fedewa, Gene Platte, Carol and Jenny Platte, Joan Platte and Bill and Connie Platte; in-laws Bertha Simon, Bernadette Thelen, Regina and Harold Simon, Rita and David Witgen, Jean Thelen and Aggie and Kenneth Stump.
