Martha Christine Souder, age 56, passed away at the Casey House hospice in Rockville, MD on Friday, March 10th, 2023.
Martha was born on April 1st, 1966 in Silver Spring, MD, the cherished younger daughter of George and Mary (Onuferko) Halushynsky. She lived in Silver Spring, MD and worked at the American Nurses Association at the time of her passing.
Martha was a beloved partner, daughter, sister, aunt and stepmother. She was a woman of beauty, courage, wisdom, empathy and love. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Martha’s passions included cuddling with her cats Ringo and Boris Parker, gardening for and feeding backyard wildlife, bringing joy to family and friends, half marathons, saving cats, dogs, giraffes and big cats, painting, collecting Ukrainian arts and crafts, anything chocolate, the color purple and The Rolling Stones. Martha was a long-time supporting member of World Wildlife Fund and Guiding Eyes for the Blind (training and gifting guide dogs).
Martha is survived by the love of her life, John Deane, stepchildren Clinton Deane (Flor Deane), Amanda Deane Meneses (Fernando Meneses), Rosemary Deane (Matthew Putnam), and step grandchildren Sean, Stephen, Annabelle, Levi, Mathew, Paul, Joshua, Marianna, Rachel, Sophia, Emerson and Eliana. She is also survived by her loving father, George Halushynsky, sister Helene Denny (Mark Denny) and nephew George Denny, aunt Areta Nadozirny (Victor Nadozirny), cousins Natalie Nadozirny and Jamie Suthard, aunt Irene Chuchra (George Chuchra), cousins Ksenia, Alex and Mark Chuchra, aunt Lilliana Paslawskyj (Michael Paslawskyj), and very special friends Susan Gustavsson and David Souder. Martha was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Halushynsky, and by her stepchild, Sean Deane.
