Martha Rose Bethel, 100, of New Florence, Missouri, formerly of Danville, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at New Florence Nursing & Care Center, New Florence, Missouri.
Mrs. Bethel was born in Wellsville, Missouri on October 21, 1913, the daughter of the late William Thomas and Adelia Mae (Collyer) Prior.
She was the widow of Kenneth George Bethel. They were married September 2, 1933 at Hermann, Missouri.
Martha is survived by a son Kenneth “Junior” Bethel of Montgomery City, son James Bethel & wife Phyllis of Danville, daughter Carolyn See & husband Larry of Wellsville, son Monte Bethel & wife Judy of Danville, son Ronald Bethel & wife Judy of New Florence, daughter Ruth Schaefer & husband Jerry of Rhineland, and 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, by four sisters Virginia Millam, Nellie Mae Hart, Sarah Elizabeth Landrum and Mary Isabelle Dieckman, by four brothers Edward, Price, Les Prior and a one in infancy, by a grandchild Tracy Bethel, two great grandsons Joshua Schaefer and Zack See, a great granddaughter Tiffany Westhoelter and a daughter-in-law Barbara Kay Bethel.
Martha worked at several factories during her life, including Samuels Shoe Factory in Fulton, Beacon Shoe Company in Jonesburg,and the garment factory in Wellsville. She and her husband also owned and operated the Village Cafe in Danville, MO.
