Martha Cleaves Haymond, age 99, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away peacefully at the Hamilton Continuing Care Center on Dec. 29, 2017.
Born in Caroline County MD Oct. 23, 1918, Martha resided in the Trenton area for over 70 years.
In 1946, she and her husband, Chester Martin Haymond Sr., came to Trenton, NJ, to join the staff at the Trenton Psychiatric Hospital. Chester Sr. passed away suddenly in 1948, but Martha served the hospital patients faithfully for 37 years. Many residents responded to her care and kindness and gave her the nickname Jenny.
Martha was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Nora Butler Cleaves, wife of the late Chester Martin Haymond Sr., and grandmother of the late Faith Marie Haymond.
She is survived by sons, Chester Martin Haymond Jr. and his wife, Judi, and John E. Haymond and his partner, Daria Hanssen; two grandchildren, Carrie Lee Haymond and husband Vincent James Hesketh, and Matthew Martin Haymond and longtime girlfriend Krissy O’Conner, and a great- grandson, Jackson Nolan .
