Marlowe Ekren, 93, of Baudette, MN, died Thursday, September 21, 2006 in the Lakewood Care Center in Baudette. He was born on December 31, 1912, in Thief River Falls, MN to Evan and Sara Ann Ekren. He grew up in the Pitt, MN area and went to school in Baudette through the 8th grade. He states that he went to high school for two weeks and then dropped out. Marlowe worked in a grocery store and did some logging.
Marlowe never married, he states that he thought about it at one time but decided that it wasn’t for him. He has lived in the care center since March of 1968. Marlowe used to go to the Covenant Church and continues to read his Bible almost everyday. He enjoys playing pool, reading, sitting in the sun and doing outdoor chores around the care center. He liked to eat watermelon, candy and chew snuff and drink a beer once in a while.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, Helen Wyckoff; Violet Doonan; Murial Laub, Alvin Ekren; Clarence Ekren and Thelma DeHaven.
Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Terrance Doonan; Joanne Wigand; John DeHaven; Carol Smith and Diane Ricci; and several great nieces and great nephews.
