Marjorie Snyder Lednum, 71, of Cambridge, MD passed away on December 30, 2013 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, following a sudden illness.
Born on January 26, 1942 in Phoenixville, PA, Margie was the youngest daughter of the late Marjorie Mae Keener and William Snyder. She graduated from Spring Ford High School (PA) in 1960 and later graduated from Millersville State Teachers’ College where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1964. Thereafter, she earned her Master’s degree in Education from The Johns Hopkins University. Margie married Charles Noble Lednum, Jr. on July 25, 1964. While he served in the Navy, she taught school in Norfolk, VA. They returned to his hometown of Cambridge, MD in 1966, where she continued to teach elementary school in Dorchester County. Following the death of her mother-in-law in 1978, Margie began a new career managing the family businesses, Lednum’s Jewelers and Beltone Lednum Hearing Centers. In 2012, Beltone recognized her at their National Meeting for 40 years of dedicated service to helping the hearing impaired.
Margie was very active in the business community. She served as president of the Downtown Cambridge Business Association and as the first president for Cambridge Main Street. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce and was a past member of Quota Club International. Margie was a long-time member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge, MD. She served on numerous committees and was a member of Zion’s handbell choir, Bells of Praise.
Margie was dedicated to her family and delighted in her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Charles Noble Lednum, Jr.; her daughter Eileen and husband Kirk C. Downey of Hagerstown, MD; her son Charles Noble Lednum, III and his wife Christina of East New Market, MD; and her granddaughter Erin A. Downey of Hagerstown, MD. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Minnich, her brothers-in-law Donald Dyer and Ronald Forster, five nieces, six nephews, and their families.
In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her sisters Louise Dyer and Mary Antosh Forster.
