Margie Ruth Taylor was born on January 16, 1936, in Ashland, Mississippi to Henry and Kersia Ella Taylor, who both preceded her in death. She was the sixth of eight children.
She attended Shiloh elementary and Old Salem High School in Benton County; Margie left her small southern town in Mississippi and headed north to settle in Chicago where she remained until her untimely end.
Margie accepted Christ at an early age while attending Shiloh Baptist Church and later joined Perry Chapter Pentecostal Church. These roots and strong family dynamics helped form her firm belief in strength found in family, love, and God’s word. She didn’t just talk about these values; she lived them.
Margie worked various jobs during her early years but her longest and most significant career was at the McCormick Place where she worked in the food service industry for over 25 years until she retired. Retirement by no means slowed her down. During her many years staying in 1111 better known as Pimp Palace Margie was a pillar of her community in many ways. She coordinated and participated in summer food programs for the youth, girl scouts, 4H club, and annual field trips. She was an avid gardener who also enjoyed sewing and going for walks around the neighborhood.
Most of all she loved the Lord and read her Bible daily. She was affectionately called Momma T to many. Margie loved to cook and didn’t hesitate to feed anyone. Her door was always open.
On November 17, 2022, Margie soul peacefully departed from her body at UIC Hospital where she had a short battle with cancer. She was blessed to have experienced this life for 86 wonderful years surrounded by family and love. In that time, she blessed so many with her selflessness, love and kindness.
Margie is preceded in death by her four brothers; Henry, Ralph, Clifton, and James; two sisters Ella Mary and baby girl; and two sons, Delegent and Rania.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters; Hildred and Kersia; four sons, Lance, Marcuson, Terron, and Emeka; sister, Willie C. Young, 35 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and her great friend of many years Eva Mae Norwood.
